Bartosz Pacan

Bartosz Pacan is a clarinettist, soloist and chamber musician whose musical language is distinguished by freedom, richness of tone and sincerity of expression. He combines a strong classical foundation with an openness to a wide range of musical languages — from classical and contemporary repertoire to improvisation and inspirations drawn from traditional music.

He is Principal Clarinet of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and a prizewinner of national and international music competitions. As a soloist, he has performed with ensembles including the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio and AUKSO – Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy. Among the important artistic milestones in his career are a performance of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Sinfonietta No. 2 conducted by the composer himself, the world premiere of Aleš Pavlorek’s Concerto grosso for four clarinets and orchestra with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the premiere of Joanna Szymała’s Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet with the Silesian String Quartet.

Since 2016, he has been a member of Etnos Ensemble, with which he has recorded four albums. The ensemble combines classical performance practice with improvisation and influences drawn from Slavic, Balkan, klezmer and Middle Eastern music. For him, Etnos Ensemble is a space for exploring new sounds, spontaneity and freedom of expression. With the group, he has performed at venues including the Warsaw Philharmonic, NOSPR, the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio and the Forest Opera in Sopot, as well as at festivals such as NDI Sopot Classic, Sinfonietta Festival and Nowa Tradycja, and on concert tours throughout Europe and South America.

He is also the creator of the original project “Mind, Body, Music – Techniques Supporting the Development of Undiscovered Performance Skills,” devoted to expanding musicians’ performance potential through conscious work with the body and mind, the development of imagination and a deeper understanding of the creative process.

In his artistic work, he places particular emphasis on naturalness, freedom and authenticity of expression. He sees music as a deeply personal form of communication — one that can move, inspire, delight and bring joy. Sharing with listeners the beauty he discovers in music holds a special place in his artistic life
